Hello! Welcome to the Bon-Ton Borzoi WebPages! Bon-Ton Borzoi started back in 1969, when our first Borzoi purchased came from the Del-Jer Kennels, which was located in Burlington, Wisconsin. Del-Jer was purchasing stock from James Barr, at the Sunbarr Ranch, while Mr. Barr had decided to retire from breeding. Our first Borzoi was Bonne Brindle Bon-Ton (Brindy). After showing her a few times, we realized that we needed another Borzoi, and as the usual story goes, found out you can't just have one Borzoi, so we acquired
CH. Zorro Markovo of Del-Jer

(Sunbarr's Du Red x Del-Jer's Lara Lieh).
Zorro (Zackery's great great grandfather) was a pleasure to show. He would practically set himself up, and gave the regal look all Borzoi should possess and proved that by finishing his championship. He was only 30-1/2", but had coat that was so long and silky, his brisket hair almost touched the ground as he stood still.
Although we did not breed a lot, we did have three litters, with several champions, including the #6 Borzoi in 1978. That was
CH. Bon-Ton's Whizzer of Oz

(CH. Zorro Markovo of Del-Jer x CH. Bon-Ton's Zorina of Del-Jer)
however, Oz was just a cute add-on and not a kennel [at that time]. He won many Hound Group placings (including a Group 1), and was always owner handled.
Litter sister to Whizzer, CH. Bon-Ton's Kalista Zora

held the record for the most dogs defeated at the Midwest Borzoi Club Specialty at Detroit in 1978, under judge Robin Searle from England. So at least we did get a taste of winning big in the ring. At this point in time, I have no idea if the record of 202 Borzoi defeated at this particular Specialty has ever been broken.
In recent years I acquired a male descendent from Kalista Zora (Bon-Ton's Whatzup Zackery) out of a Twin Elms bitch we bred to. Zackery sustained a cruciate ligament tear at a very early age so was unable to be shown. However, he was sought out to stud a lovely Twin Elms bitch, Shelmar's Babycakes. From this breeding (January 14, 2004) came my two darling twin boys (pictured above), CH. Bon-Ton's Zoltar of Shelmar and CH. Bon-Ton's Zebulon fo Shelmar. They were both in the top 10 rankings within the Midwest Borzoi Club during their show careers.
I acquired a lovely bitch in 2006, Laureate Adrienne Sundance Czina Bon-Ton from Monica Barry to compliment my boys' as a brood bitch. As my luck goes, Czina never wanted to be a mom so I gave up on that dream. Czina is major pointed, but decided to be chubby instead of a runway model so we stopped showing her.
Now we are awaiting a new little girl to add to our home. Edenrock Calaron Zenda Bon-Ton will be arriving in Tennessee on April 30, 2012. We're starting a new page in our life and are excited to be able to add her to our home. She will be shown in the Southeast. Hopefully we will make Penny Keiffer ande Delores Swan proud of her when we get that elusive championship title added to her name.
I am a member of the Midwest Borzoi Club, and the Borzoi Club of America. In the past, I wrote antique articles about Borzoi collectibles for the Borzoi International and Borzoi Connection magazines. The economy got bad and both magazines eventually closed shop. At the present time, you can still catch my collectibles columns on the BCOA website. Drop me a line anytime you would like to chat collectibles with you anytime.
